Venice, 19th century. Vampires pose a threat to city dwellers, especially young ladies. Fortunately, many of them are saved by an unknown man who conceals his identity under a carnival mask (and costume) and kills vampires with a strange stick. What's his name? Is he noble? Is he Italian or Austrian?* Is he a vampire himself? Nobody knows anything about him. He just fights vampires and that's enough to make him an enigmatic hero.

*During the 19th century (until 1866), Venice was part of the Austrian Empire.
