Being Italian, I feel duty bound to write something about the devastating earthquake which destroyed entire villages and a big part of L'Aquila, a town in Abruzzo, Central Italy.
I fortunately live in Sardinia, that Italian island just in the middle of the Mediterranean, so I don't know what an earthquake is: Sardinia is one of the less seismic zones in the world.
But I really feel the pain and the despair of those people.
It's terrible: the earthquake, measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale, destroyed almost everything and right now it has claimed more than 200 victims, while there are dozens of missing people. And thousands of people have been injured.
National televisions never stop broadcasting images, reports, stories and news about the earthquake: I've seen rubble everywhere, people crying and yelling in despair; I've heard about people who have lost everything, about fathers who have lost all their sons and their children; I've heard about two young lovers who have been found dead together in their bed, under the rubble, hugging each other; I've heard about a grandmother who has lost her granddaugthers... I've heard a lot of aching, painful stories that now I just don't know what to say. I'm... I'm speechless.
I'm too schocked.
I can't handle these things.

A cousin of my mother lives there. He and his family are fortunately safe. But they've lost everything.
